Two rides in Montenegro are worth taking for the route itself: the Kotor-Lovćen cable car, 11 minutes from the bay to 1,348 m, and the Bar-Belgrade railway, 167.1 km of tunnels and viaducts between the sea and the mountains. Each page gives tickets or where to find the timetable, hours, parking and what the figures rest on.

Kotor-Lovćen cable car

The cable car starts at Dub near Kotor and climbs 1,316 m to Kuk on Lovćen, at 1,348 m, in about 11 minutes, with the Bay of Kotor below the whole way up. An adult return ticket costs €20. The operator publishes summer hours only, 9:00-19:00 and from 10:30 on Tuesdays; whether it runs in winter is not stated, so check before a winter visit. The top station, Kuk, is one of the viewpoints of Lovćen National Park, looking straight down on the bay; the Njegoš Mausoleum is elsewhere in the park, on Jezerski vrh.

Bar-Belgrade railway

The railway runs 167.1 km through Montenegro, from 12 m above sea level at Bar to over 1,000 m at Kolašin. Every fourth kilometre is in a tunnel, and north of Podgorica the line crosses the Mala Rijeka viaduct, 198 m high. The timetable changes twice a year and is on the passenger operator's site, zpcg.me; practical notes on tickets and stations are on the train page under transport.

Common questions

Not confirmed. The operator publishes summer hours only (9:00-19:00, Tuesday from 10:30), so ask before a winter visit.

Where is the train timetable?

On the passenger operator's site, zpcg.me. It changes twice a year, so no departure times are printed here.

What do the rides cost?

An adult return on the cable car costs €20. Train fares are on zpcg.me; Bar to Podgorica is covered on the transport page.
