Every factual statement on eMontenegro (a height, a length, a price, an opening time, a date, a rule) comes from a source recorded for that page. Official sources come first. Drafting and translation use AI assistance; an eMontenegro editor checks each page before it goes live. Nothing is invented, and nothing is copied from other guides.
Sources, in order of preference
- Official statistics and registers: MONSTAT (the Statistical Office of Montenegro) for heights, areas and populations; the Water Administration's Registar voda od značaja za Crnu Goru (July 2024) for river lengths.
- The institution responsible for the place or service: the national parks service (nparkovi.me) for park fees and rules, the Public Enterprise for Coastal Zone Management (Morsko dobro) for beaches, museums' own sites for hours and tickets, Montefarm and the Health Insurance Fund for pharmacies, the Central Bank (CBCG) and the banks themselves for branches and ATMs.
- Ministries and the government open data portal (data.gov.me), with the licence of each dataset recorded.
- Tourist boards (the national board and the local ones) for trails, seasons and access.
- Operators' own sites and published price lists for hours, prices and locations.
Travel blogs, aggregators and other directories are read for comparison only; we copy none of their entries, text or photos. Google Maps is not a content source. Sources are listed with each page, not quoted in the text, and the full list with licences is on the data sources page.
When sources disagree
Sources often differ, so each kind of fact has a standard. For heights, areas and depths it is the MONSTAT figure, with a differing figure from another source shown next to it ("2,522 m; other sources give 2,525 m"). For river lengths it is the Water Administration register, with the MONSTAT figure noted where it differs. For prices and hours it is the responsible institution's own publication. We never pick the number that looks best, and a question no source answers stays out of the text until one does.
Dates and updates
A page shows a date only for data that a scheduled job refreshes. Facts that nothing refreshes automatically, such as a fee, an opening time or a length, carry no "checked" or "as of" date; a date would promise a freshness nobody can guarantee. Instead, a source watcher reads the official pages behind fees, timetables and opening hours every day: national park price lists, the ferry timetable and prices, museum hours, the Blue Flag list, motorway and tunnel tolls, rail fares and others. When one of them changes, an editor reviews the change before the page is updated. Prices, fees and legal rules are never changed automatically.
Data refreshed by scheduled jobs:
| Data | Source | Refreshed |
|---|---|---|
| Weather | MET Norway | every hour |
| Road conditions | AMSCG daily report | every morning, with hourly checks for a new report |
| Road notices | Monteput | every hour |
| Planned power cuts | CEDIS | every hour during the day |
| Water cuts (Podgorica) | Vodovod i kanalizacija Podgorica | every 30 minutes during the day |
| Air quality | Environmental Protection Agency | every hour |
| Sea temperature | Copernicus Marine | daily |
| Snow depth | Institute of Hydrometeorology and Seismology (ZHMS) | daily |
| Fuel prices | data.gov.me | checked daily for the weekly notice |
| Pharmacies | Health Insurance Fund, Montefarm | daily |
| EV chargers | Open Charge Map | weekly |
| Webcams (status) | the camera operators | weekly |
How AI is used
Research assistants and language models help us read sources, draft text and prepare translations. They do not decide what is true. Every fact in a draft must trace to a recorded source or it is removed, and an eMontenegro editor checks the page against its sources before it goes live. AI is never listed as an author. The road reports are the one place where a model produces reader-facing text on its own: it turns the AMSCG report and the Monteput notices into structured summaries, which are validated before they are shown.
Translations
Pages exist in four languages: English, Montenegrin (Latin script, ijekavian), German and Russian. The English and Montenegrin texts are written first; the German and Russian versions are translated from them. Every language version carries exactly the same facts, nothing added and nothing dropped. Names of institutions, laws and places are given in their official form. Until a page exists in a language, links to it lead to the English version.
Photos
Photos are our own or used under a free licence (from Wikimedia Commons and similar libraries), each with its source and licence recorded. Where the licence asks for credit, the author and licence appear with the photo. We use no photos copied from other guides, and none from businesses without permission.
No reviews, no ratings
We publish no reviews and no star ratings, our own or anyone else's, and the structured data on our pages contains no ratings. If we ever collect reviews from readers, they will be moderated and clearly separate from the editorial text.
Directory rules
- Only institutions and businesses that appear in an official register or publish their own details are listed: Montefarm and Fund-contracted pharmacies (other private pharmacies only when two independent sources show the same name at the same place), health institutions in the Ministry of Health datasets, CBCG-licensed banks.
- No personal data: no staff names, private phone numbers or personal e-mail addresses.
- Each row records its source type (official register, the business itself, OpenStreetMap or editorial). Rows built from an official source are never merged with OpenStreetMap fields.
- A business can ask to be added (see contact); it is verified against a register before it appears and is marked as business-supplied.
Live data
Live data comes from the sources in the table above and is credited where it appears. Each source has a maximum age, from a few hours for weather and air quality to two days for the road report and planned outages. A live box is shown only while its source is within that age and its last run succeeded; otherwise the box is not shown at all, because old data presented as current is worse than none. A page built around live data, such as road conditions, then shows one short line with a link to the source. Directories (pharmacies, chargers, webcams) are not live status and keep their rows.
Independence
No payment influences what we list or what we write. There are no sponsored rows, no paid placements and no affiliate links. If affiliate links, sponsorships or a booking service are added later, they will be labelled where they appear, and they will not change the facts on the page.
