Kolašin is the choice for the most lifts and the easiest access: 58 km, about an hour, from Podgorica by motorway and 68 km, about 1 h 15, from Podgorica airport, with beds in town 9 to 12 km below the slopes. Žabljak is skiing inside Durmitor National Park, with the Savin kuk lifts about 5 km from town. The two Kolašin centres sit 2.3 km apart and have about 45 km of pistes between them, but the K7 chairlift that links them has not run since 2024, so until it returns they are two areas with two passes. Snowshoeing and ski touring use the same mountains from December to March.

Children's prices at Kolašin 1600 apply up to the age of 14. Three smaller areas: Vučje, 20 km from Nikšić on the road to Žabljak, with a 1,200 m recreational run, two 120 m runs and a snow park; Hajla, 8 km from Rožaje, with a 1,019 m run; and Lokve on Cmiljevica, 14 km from Berane, between 1,350 and 1,700 m with 5 km of runs. Javorovača in Žabljak town has no working lifts and serves for sledging. Jelovica, Torine and a centre on the Komovi are planned, without dates. All of them are listed on Ski resorts.
Kolašin 1600
The state centre, run by Skijališta Crne Gore, opened on 16 February 2019, 12 km from Kolašin and about 70 km from Podgorica. The K8 Troglava six-seat chairlift reaches 2,035 m, two Leitner surface lifts were added for 2024/25, and the beginner area with a magic carpet has its own day ticket (€10 adult, €7 child). The K7 Klisura chairlift that joins the two Kolašin areas has been out of service since 2024, after works on a neighbouring plot destabilised a pylon; it and its 9 km of pistes are expected back for 2026/27. There is no snowmaking and no night skiing yet; both are planned. The 2025/26 season opened on 12-14 December 2025 and ran for more than 67 ski days into early April. Lifts, restaurant and café work 09:00-19:00. Parking costs €7 a day for a car, a daily bus runs from Kolašin centre, and there are no hotels at the base: the beds are in town. Live pictures of the slopes are on Webcams.

Kolašin 1450
The privately run centre at Jezerine, with the base at 1,450 m and the lift tops at about 1,840-1,900 m. The Viline Vode six-seat chairlift, the Ćupovi chairlift, the Jezerine and Ključ surface lifts and a baby lift carry about 5,500 skiers an hour. The pistes total about 26 km. Instructors are available for beginners. Residents of Kolašin, Berane, Andrijevica and Petnjica ski free from Monday to Thursday.
Savin kuk
Inside Durmitor National Park, about 5 km from Žabljak, run by the state company Turistički centar Durmitor. Savin kuk I is a 1,550 m two-seat chairlift to 1,907 m; Savin kuk II continues to 2,213 m, about 700 m of vertical in all. The 4.6 km of pistes are three blue runs (Snowboard 650 m, Derneci 1,100 m, Panalj 900 m), the red Korito (1,200 m), the black Vukova staza (800 m) and a 150 m baby slope; one surface lift is floodlit for night skiing, and a beginner area with a moving carpet and a tubing run was added for 2024/25. On 20 December 2025 a fatal accident on the Savin kuk II chairlift stopped both chairlifts; the surface lifts reopened after a double inspection, Savin kuk I reopened on 31 January 2026, and Savin kuk II stayed closed for the rest of that season. A completely new lift system is the Government's stated plan, and the road from Motički gaj to the lifts is due for repair under the 2026 capital budget. In winter the snowshoe trail links the lifts with Black Lake.

Season and snow
No centre has fixed season dates: the lifts open when the snow is deep enough, usually in December, and close when it goes. Kolašin 1600 has no snowmaking, so its 2025/26 season, 12-14 December to early April with more than 67 ski days, ran on natural snow alone. Savin kuk installed its first two snow guns for 2025/26. Snowshoeing and ski touring are a December to March season. Before you drive up, check the measured snow depth and the forecast at base and top height on Snow today, and the town forecasts for Kolašin and Žabljak.

At Kolašin 1600 the child price runs to the age of 14, seniors over 65 pay half, families get a discount on passes of three days or more, and an adult ski or snowboard set rents for €15 a day at the base station. A Kolašin pass is also valid at Jahorina in Bosnia and Herzegovina from 2025/26, and an earlier agreement covers Kopaonik in Serbia. There is no joint pass for Kolašin 1450 and 1600. Savin kuk has no online price list; ask at the ski centre. Non-skiers can buy a single chairlift ride at either Kolašin centre for €8 (€5 for children).
Snowboarding
Same lifts, same passes. Kolašin 1600 rents snowboards at the base station and its ski school teaches both skiing and snowboarding; Savin kuk's 650 m blue run is named Snowboard. The only snow park is at Vučje near Nikšić.
Snowshoeing and ski touring
The marked snowshoe trail from Black Lake to Savin kuk is 6.7 km and takes about two hours; the park rents snowshoes for €4 a day. Near Plav, the Osmica route on Kofiljača is 6.6 km and about five hours, and night snowshoeing with headlamps is offered. Snowshoes are also rented at the Durmitor and Prokletije visitor centres, at the Savin kuk, Kolašin 1450 and Vučje ski centres, and by the tourist offices of Andrijevica, Berane, Mojkovac and Rožaje.
Ski touring links several Bjelasica peaks and crosses Sinjajevina; on Durmitor, with its 18 lakes and 48 peaks above 2,000 m, tours reach the remote parts of the massif. The kit is touring skis, skins, transceiver, probe and shovel, plus fitness and avalanche knowledge; winter routes are harder to follow than summer ones, and beginners go with qualified local guides. Žabljak also has a marked nordic loop through forest about 800 m from the town centre, with rental and instructors at the sports centre, and guided snowmobile rides run on Sinjajevina and Bjelasica where motor access is allowed.
Getting there
Kolašin 1600 is 12 km from Kolašin on a road resurfaced before 2025/26, with a daily bus from the centre; by the Podgorica-Mateševo motorway it is about 70 km, 1 h 15, from Podgorica. The Bar-Belgrade train stops in Kolašin, where the line climbs above 1,000 m. Savin kuk is about 5 km from Žabljak, which is 123 km, about 2 h 40, from Podgorica via Nikšić and has no railway; the coach lines are on Buses. There are no hotels at the Kolašin 1600 base; both towns hold the beds.
Common questions
Is December reliable for skiing in Montenegro?
Not guaranteed. Kolašin 1600 has no snowmaking, so an early opening depends on natural snow; in 2025/26 it opened on 12-14 December and ran for more than 67 ski days. Savin kuk installed its first two snow guns for 2025/26. Check Snow today before you book.
Which resort is best for beginners?
Kolašin 1600 has a beginner area with a magic carpet and its own day ticket (€10 adult, €7 child); Savin kuk has a beginner area with a moving carpet and three blue runs; Kolašin 1450 has instructors for beginners.
Can non-skiers use the lifts?
Yes. Both Kolašin centres sell a single chairlift ride, €8 for adults and €5 for children.
Are Kolašin 1450 and 1600 connected?
By the K7 chairlift, which has been out of service since 2024 and is expected back for 2026/27. Until then they are two areas with separate passes.
Is Savin kuk open?
In 2025/26 it ran with restrictions after the fatal chairlift accident of 20 December 2025: the surface lifts and the Savin kuk I chairlift reopened, Savin kuk II did not run. Check with the ski centre before you travel.
Where can I rent snowshoes?
At the Durmitor and Prokletije visitor centres, the Savin kuk, Kolašin 1450 and Vučje ski centres, and the tourist offices of Andrijevica, Berane, Mojkovac and Rožaje. The Durmitor park charges €4 a day.
