The Kamenari-Lepetane ferry crosses the Verige strait, the narrowest point of the Bay of Kotor, in about 15 minutes, day and night, all year. It links Kamenari in Herceg Novi municipality with Lepetane in Tivat municipality and spares you the drive round the inner bay through Risan and Kotor, about 43.5 km and about 64 min without traffic. Foot passengers and cyclists cross free; cars and other vehicles pay per class. The current price list and the summer and winter timetables are in the live block on this page. Tickets are sold online at trajekt.me; the operator is the public enterprise JP Morsko dobro.

Prices and who crosses free

The live price list above gives the fare for each vehicle class, from motorcycles and cars to buses and lorries. Foot passengers, persons with disabilities and bicycles cross free, as do ambulances, fire engines and police and army vehicles. Residents of Herceg Novi and Tivat pay a reduced fare all year; for that fare the season runs from 1 June to 30 September and the off-season from 1 October to 31 May. The price list changes each September, so the block on this page is the figure to trust rather than an older guidebook.

Timetable

In the summer plan, from early May to mid-October, the ferry runs every 15 to 20 minutes round the clock. In the winter plan, from mid-October to early May, it runs every 20 minutes from 06:00 to 24:00 and hourly at night, leaving Kamenari on the hour and Lepetane at half past. The timetable changes each May and October; the live block shows the plan in force. The crossing itself takes about 15 minutes, plus any wait at the ramp.

Tickets

Online at trajekt.me you choose the date and the vehicle class and pay with Visa or Mastercard. The charge is in euros; foreign cards are converted at the rate of CKB bank.

The two terminals and how to reach them

Kamenari is on the Herceg Novi side of the strait. The coastal road from Herceg Novi runs along the bay through Kumbor, past Portonovi, and reaches the ramp after 14.3 km, about 23 min by car from the town centre. Lepetane is on the Tivat side: from the ramp it is 8.3 km, about 10 min, to Tivat Airport, with the town and Porto Montenegro a little beyond. The two terminals stand about 1 km apart across the water. The fleet is eight ferries with a combined capacity of 300 vehicles: Perast, Kamenari, Lepetane, Igalo, Grbalj, Teodo, 30. Avgust and Ruka Pravde. The line has carried passengers as well as vehicles under a Government decision of 15 February 2023.

Ferry or the road round the bay?

The alternative is the road along the inner bay: from the Kamenari ramp to the Lepetane ramp via Risan, Perast and Kotor it is about 43.5 km and about 64 min without traffic, in three legs of 11.1 km to Risan, 17.5 km to Kotor and 14.9 km on to Lepetane. The ferry replaces that with a 15-minute crossing plus any wait at the ramp. The road round the bay is the scenic option: it passes Our Lady of the Rocks off Perast and the Roman mosaics in Risan, and it is the route to take if you want to stop in Kotor on the way. Road closures and conditions are on the driving page.
