eMontenegro

Last updated 26 October 2026.

eMontenegro collects little. When you open a page, our web server records the request in a log (your IP address, the page, the time, your browser type). Google Analytics counts visits without cookies; it sets cookies only if you accept them in the cookie banner. Weather and road widgets keep a short cache in your browser, and the home page remembers the town you picked. Map pages load map images from OpenStreetMap servers. There is no advertising, no accounts, and nothing is sold or shared for marketing.

Who is responsible

eMontenegro is run by a private individual, not a company.

Questions about personal data: contact@emontenegro.com.

What is processed, and why

Server logs

Every request to emontenegro.com is recorded by the web server (nginx) in an access log: IP address, date and time, the address requested, the result code, the page you came from if your browser sends it, and the browser and device type (user agent). This is the standard log every web server keeps; we use it to keep the site running, to find errors and to block abuse. Logs are kept for a limited time for security and troubleshooting and then deleted. They are not used to build profiles and are not combined with any other data.

Visit statistics (Google Analytics)

We use Google Analytics 4 to see, in aggregate, which pages are read, from which countries and on which devices, so we know what to improve. The Google tag loads on every page in Google Consent Mode v2 with analytics storage denied (analytics_storage denied by default). Until you choose "Accept" in the cookie banner, it sets and reads no cookies and sends Google only cookieless measurements: the page viewed, the time, the page you came from (referrer), your browser and device type (user agent), your consent choice and a random number that changes on every page load. They carry no identifier that links one page view to the next. If you choose "Accept", Google Analytics also sets its cookies (see the table below), so repeat visits can be told from new ones.

  • Advertising features are switched off for good: ad_storage, ad_user_data and ad_personalization are always denied, and Google Signals is off. No data from this site is used for advertising.
  • Google Analytics 4 uses your IP address only to work out a rough location and does not store it.
  • Google deletes user-level data after the retention period set in Google Analytics.
  • The provider is Google Ireland Ltd for visitors in Europe and Google LLC in the United States, where the data may be processed. The transfer is covered by the EU-US Data Privacy Framework, which Google has joined. See Google's privacy policy.
  • To withdraw consent, use the "Cookie settings" link in the footer, which reopens the banner, and choose "Reject"; the Google Analytics cookies are then deleted and cookieless measurement continues. You can also install Google's opt-out browser add-on, which blocks Google Analytics on every site.

Live weather and road data

Weather and road conditions are fetched by your browser from our own server (emontenegro.com/api/…). Our server gets the forecasts from the Norwegian Meteorological Institute (MET Norway) and the road report from AMSCG; your browser never contacts those services, so they do not see your IP address. The request to our server is logged like any other page request.

Map tiles from OpenStreetMap

Maps are drawn with Leaflet from image tiles served by the OpenStreetMap Foundation (tile.openstreetmap.org). When a map is on the page, your browser requests those images directly, so your IP address and browser type reach the OSMF servers, under the OSMF privacy policy. Apart from Google (the Google Analytics script and measurements, see above), this is the only third party your browser contacts on our pages. Fonts, pictures and all other scripts are served from our own server. If we switch to another tile provider, this page will name it.

Your location ("Near me")

The map page has a "Near me" button. Nothing happens until you press it; then your browser asks your permission and gives the page your position once, to sort the list by distance and show a dot on the map. The position is not stored and not sent to us or anyone else. Press the button again to remove it.

Search

The search box loads a list of our pages into memory and searches it on your device. What you type is not sent anywhere while you type. If you open the full results page, the search term is part of the page address and so appears in the server log like any other address.

E-mail you send us

If you write to us by e-mail, we keep your message and address for as long as needed to answer and to carry out any correction it leads to, then as a record of that correction. We do not add you to a mailing list; there is none.

Cookies and similar storage

We set no cookies of our own. The only cookies on the site are the two Google Analytics cookies, and they are set only after you accept them in the banner. Without consent, Google Analytics measures visits without any cookie. The two browser storage entries are not cookies: they stay on your device, are never sent to us or anyone else, contain no personal data and are needed for the function you used, so they need no consent.

Your choice in the banner is itself remembered in your browser so the banner does not reappear on every page. The map page keeps its state in the page address, not in storage.

Apartment pages (the short links on QR codes some hosts give their guests) collect nothing: no form, no cookie of their own, nothing about the guest or the host beyond what the server log records for any page.

What we do not do

  • No advertising and no ad networks.
  • No analytics cookies without your consent; no advertising features in Google Analytics; no Google Signals.
  • No tracking pixels, no fingerprinting, no social media buttons, no embedded video.
  • No accounts, no newsletter, no forms that store data on our server.
  • No selling, renting or sharing of data for marketing.

Legal basis

Montenegro's rules on personal data are in the Law on Personal Data Protection (Zakon o zaštiti podataka o ličnosti); the supervisory authority is the Agency for Personal Data Protection and Free Access to Information (AZLP). For visitors from the European Economic Area, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) applies as well. In plain words: the server log is kept because we have a legitimate interest in running a secure, working site, and the small amount recorded does not outweigh your interests. Google Analytics cookies are set only with your consent, which you can withdraw at any time; the cookieless measurement without consent rests on our legitimate interest in knowing, in aggregate, how the site is used. The two browser storage entries are strictly needed for the function you used. "Near me" works only with the permission you give your browser each time. E-mails are processed in order to answer you.

Retention

  • Server logs: a limited time for security and troubleshooting, then deleted.
  • Google Analytics: user-level data for the retention period set in Google Analytics; the cookies last 2 years unless you delete them or choose "Reject".
  • Browser storage: see the table; you can delete it at any time in your browser settings.
  • E-mail: as long as needed to deal with it; correction reports are kept as a record of the change.

Your rights

You can ask what data we hold about you, ask for it to be corrected or deleted, object to its processing and withdraw consent. Write to contact@emontenegro.com. Because the server log identifies a visit only by IP address and time, we may need those details from you to find anything; Google Analytics data is aggregated and we cannot tie it to a person.

You can also complain to the supervisory authority: in Montenegro the Agencija za zaštitu ličnih podataka i slobodan pristup informacijama (AZLP), Bulevar Revolucije 11, Podgorica, azlp@azlp.me, azlp.me; in the EU, the data protection authority of your country.

If we add affiliate links

We plan to add partner (affiliate) links later, for example to tour, car hire or accommodation booking sites, as described on the affiliate disclosure page. A plain link sets nothing on our pages. Once you click through, the partner's site may set its own cookies and record the visit under its own privacy policy, which we do not control. If anything on our own pages ever needs consent beyond what the banner already covers (for example a partner widget), we will ask for it before it loads, and this page will be updated to say what changed.

Changes

When this page changes, the date at the top is updated and the change is noted here. 15 October 2026: first version. 26 October 2026: without consent, Google Analytics now measures visits without cookies (Consent Mode, advanced); cookies are still set only with consent.

Tour cards show photos loaded from Viator's servers, so your browser connects to Viator when such a card is on the page.
