eMontenegro

Montenegro is small enough to cross by car in a day: Kotor to Žabljak is 162 km and about 3 h 30 without stops. Without a car, intercity buses reach every town, one railway runs from Bar through Podgorica to the north, and a ferry shortens the road round the Bay of Kotor. The pages linked below give fares, stops and timetables where an official source publishes them.

Bus

Intercity buses are run by private carriers; departures and tickets for the whole country are on busticket4.me. They are the usual way between the coast, Podgorica and the northern towns.

Train

The Bar-Belgrade railway is the only passenger line of note. It stops at Podgorica Airport, Podgorica and Kolašin; Bar to Podgorica costs EUR 2.80 in second class. The coastal towns other than Bar have no railway.

Ferry

The Kamenari-Lepetane ferry crosses the Bay of Kotor day and night in about 15 minutes and is free for foot passengers and cyclists. It saves the drive round the inner bay between Herceg Novi and Tivat or Kotor.

Car

The only tolls are the Sozina tunnel on the Podgorica-Bar road (EUR 2.50 per car) and the Smokovac-Mateševo motorway north of Podgorica (EUR 3.50). Rules, fuel and winter equipment are under driving, closures and works under road conditions, hire companies under car rentals.

Airports

Tivat Airport is 8 km from Kotor and 21 km from Budva; Podgorica Airport is about 40 minutes from Cetinje and 55 from Bar. Both are on the airports page.
