The monument to Vladimir Vysotsky stands on the bank of the Morača in Podgorica, between the Moscow Bridge and the Millennium Bridge. Vysotsky, the Russian poet and singer, stayed in Podgorica while working on a film for the former TV Titograd, and the Podgorica Tourist Organisation quotes his song 'Za Crnogorce', in which he regrets not having two roots so that he could call Montenegro his second homeland.
The statue
The Art Montenegro site describes the figure as barefoot with a guitar and one hand raised, unveiled in October 2004 as a gift of Moscow, by Aleksandr Taratinov, with Vysotsky's son Nikita present. The quotation often given as the monument's inscription ('I regret that I didn't come to Montenegro while I was alive') is unsourced and contradicts the tourist organisation's account.
