Mala plaža (Small Beach) is the 360 m town beach of Ulcinj, in the bay directly below the Old Town, whose walls rise straight from the sea at one end. The sand is very fine on the shore and on the seabed, the water is dark blue-green and stays shallow a long way out, which suits children. Restaurants, pubs and cafés line the back of the beach, and a small harbour with a landing sits at the Old Town end. It is the town's main beach, with room for about 2,500 people.

Getting there and parking

On foot from anywhere in the town centre: the beach is the bottom of the town. Street parking in Ulcinj is zoned; zone I costs €0.90 an hour in summer (1 June to 1 October), charged daily 07:00-23:00, with a €9 day ticket. By road from the beach, Bar is 28 km (about 39 minutes) and Podgorica Airport 73 km (about 1 h 35 min); the middle of Velika plaža is 9 km (about 17 minutes) from the town centre.

The beach

360 m long, with room for about 2,500 bathers. Very fine sand on shore and seabed; the water is shallow far out, so small children can play in it. Restaurants, pubs and cafés stand behind the sand, and the Old Town walls close the bay at one end.

Loungers and the free half

Every public bathing area must keep half of its length free of loungers and umbrellas and mark it, with a free strip along the water and a passage to the sea at least every 20 m. Lifeguards are posted at least one per 50 m of shore in July and August and one per 100 m in the other months of the season, which runs from May to October, when the bathing water is also tested.
