The clock tower of Ulcinj was built in 1754 from the voluntary donations of the town's citizens, to call people to work and remind them of their civic duties. It is square in plan and built of dressed stone, and its position was chosen so that it could be seen, or its strikes heard, from all parts of the town. For a long time a keeper called the muvekit looked after the clock's accuracy. It dates from the Ottoman period of the town (1571-1878/80).
