Žukotrlica is the 1,000 m pebble beach of Šušanj, the suburb of Bar on the Sutomore side of the town. Entrance and parking are free and sunbeds and umbrellas are for hire along the shore. The name comes from žukva, Spanish broom, which was soaked and rubbed here to soften it for weaving. With an area of 55,000 m² it is one of the larger beaches around Bar.

Getting there and parking

Šušanj lies on the Adriatic highway between Bar and Sutomore, and the beach is below it. Entrance and parking at the beach are free. Bar is the terminus of the Bar-Belgrade railway, and Sutomore has the next station; by road Sutomore is 12 km and about 20 minutes from Bar. Street parking in Bar and Sutomore is run by Parking servis Bar in zones, with zone I at €0.50 per started hour.

Loungers and the free half

Every public bathing area must keep half of its length free of loungers and umbrellas and mark it, with a free strip along the water and a passage to the sea at least every 20 m. Lifeguards are posted at least one per 50 m of shore in July and August and one per 100 m in the other months of the season, which runs from May to October, when the bathing water is also tested. No bathing area at Žukotrlica has held the Blue Flag.

Water quality

Morsko dobro publishes the bathing-water test results through the season on its news page; a red flag on a bathing area means a swimming ban. Check the current results before swimming, especially after heavy rain.
