Ričardova glava (Richard's Head) is a pebble beach of about 100 m directly under the old town walls of Budva, in front of Hotel Avala, on the footpath to Mogren. Its official name is Brijeg od Budve; the everyday name comes from the actor Richard Widmark, who filmed "The Long Ships" here in 1963. It is the closest beach to the old town and the Citadel, quiet in the mornings and evenings and a party beach in the afternoons.

Getting there and parking
On foot from the old town: leave the walls on the Hotel Avala side and the beach is the first one you reach on the path towards Mogren. Parking is in town. The city buses to Sveti Stefan, Petrovac and Jaz all leave from Mediteranska street in the centre, a short walk away.

Street parking in Budva municipality is zoned. In summer (1 May to 30 September) zone I costs €2 an hour for at most 1 hour, zone II €1.50 an hour for at most 3 hours and zone III €1 an hour, charged daily 07:00-24:00. An unpaid stay earns a €50 day ticket, reduced by a third if paid within 8 days.
The beach
Pebble, about 100-150 m long. The old town walls rise at one end and Hotel Avala stands behind it. Mornings and evenings are quiet; in the afternoon the beach clubs run day parties, so pick your hour according to what you want.

Loungers and the free half
Every public bathing area must keep half of its length free of loungers and umbrellas and mark it, with a free strip along the water and a passage to the sea at least every 20 m; a hotel bathing area may be furnished throughout. Lifeguards are posted at least one per 50 m of shore in July and August and one per 100 m in the other months of the season, which runs from May to October, when the bathing water is also tested.
Blue Flag
The bathing area "Ričardova glava" (4C) has been in the pilot phase of the Blue Flag programme, a preparatory step and not a flag. The flag belongs to a concession, not to the whole beach.
