Ploče is a rocky beach of about 400 m at Platamuni cape, 11 km by road from Budva (about 19 minutes) beyond Jaz and Trsteno, in the municipality of Kotor. Four swimming pools, bars, jet-ski and yacht hire and a diving school make up for the lack of sand, and Platamuni cape is one of Montenegro's marine protected areas. An asphalt road leads to the beach, with parking, and the Budva city bus runs here in summer.

Getting there and parking

By car, 11 km by road from Budva (about 19 minutes) along the Grbalj coast: past Jaz and the Trsteno turn-off, to the road down to Ploče. The city bus Budva-Jaz-Trsteno-Ploče leaves the Mediteranska street stop in Budva with 14 departures between 08:00 and 19:15 and returns between 08:45 and 20:00; it is a seasonal service. There is parking at the beach. Jaz, on the way, is 6 km and about 10 minutes from Budva.

The beach

About 400 m of rock, concrete and pebble, a public beach without sand. Four swimming pools stand on the shore, with outdoor bars serving drinks and fast food, yacht and jet-ski hire and a diving school. Bathing shoes help on the rock; the pools are what families come for. In season Ploče is one of the party beaches of the coast.

Loungers and the free half

Every public bathing area must keep half of its length free of loungers and umbrellas and mark it, with a free strip along the water and a passage to the sea at least every 20 m. Lifeguards are posted at least one per 50 m of shore in July and August and one per 100 m in the other months of the season, which runs from May to October, when the bathing water is also tested. No bathing area at Ploče has held the Blue Flag.

Platamuni

Platamuni cape is one of Montenegro's three marine protected areas, with Katič off Petrovac and Stari Ulcinj. See diving in Montenegro for the rules and the clubs.
