Jaz is a beach with a pebble shore and a sandy seabed, about 1,200 m long in two parts, 6 km by road west of Budva on the Adriatic road towards Tivat and Kotor. A city bus runs here from Budva, a large campsite and the car park sit in the shade behind the beach, and four of its bathing areas have held the Blue Flag. The field behind the beach is the venue for the coast's big concerts and music festivals.
Getting there and parking
The city bus Budva-Jaz-Trsteno-Ploče leaves from the Mediteranska street stop in Budva, at the roundabout opposite café Perla: 14 departures between 08:00 and 19:15, with returns from 08:45 to 20:00. By car, Jaz is 6 km and about 10 minutes from the centre of Budva. The car park and the auto-camp share the shaded hinterland behind the beach.
| From | Road distance | Driving time |
|---|---|---|
| Budva centre | 6 km | about 10 min |
| Tivat Airport | 18 km | about 21 min |
| Kotor | 19 km | about 24 min |
| Podgorica Airport | 70 km | about 95 min |
Times are for a car without traffic. Street parking in Budva itself is in paid zones; the Budva page has the prices.

Size and surface
The beach has two parts, about 800 m and 400 m long, with a total area of 22,500 m². Some lists round the length down to 1,000 m. The shore is pebble and the seabed is sand, which is why Jaz is described as both a pebble and a sandy beach: you lie on stones and swim over sand.

Blue Flag
In Montenegro the Blue Flag is awarded to a bathing area run by one concession holder, not to a whole beach. Four areas on Jaz have held it: Big Brother (1A), SBS (1C), S & I Beach Life (1H) and Poseidon (1J). A fifth, Escape-Žuta greda (2A), is in the pilot phase, which is not a flag. The flagged areas are rented concessions with their own loungers, umbrellas and showers.
Is it free?
Yes, in part, by rule. On every public bathing area half of the length must stay free of loungers and umbrellas and be marked as such, so there is always room for a towel of your own; a free passage to the sea at least 1 m wide every 20 m and a free strip at least 3 m wide along the waterline are also required. Loungers on the furnished half are rented. They are free after 17:00 only for citizens of Montenegro showing an ID card; in earlier years the free evening applied to everyone. Lifeguards watch every 50 m of shore in July and August and every 100 m in the other months of the season.
Facilities
Several restaurants and cafés work on the beach and behind it, and the campsite behind the beach is a large one. The open field between the beach and the road is the venue for the coast's big concerts and music festivals. In 2015 Lonely Planet named Jaz the best beach in Europe.

Naturist area
Jaz has one official naturist area, bathing area 2G at Žuta greda: 101 m of pebble shore at the south-eastern end of the beach, on the way towards Mogren. From the Jaz car park, walk the length of the main beach and past the small beach by Malaya Beach Club; the area begins about 130 m beyond it, roughly 1.1 km and 14 minutes on foot in all. It lies in a protected zone and nothing is built there: no sunbeds, bars or showers. Entry is for naturists only. The shore south-east of it, area 2H, is an ordinary public beach.
