Slovenska plaža is the main town beach of Budva: 1,600 m of pebble, sandy in places, running from the town harbour by the old town to Hotel Park. A promenade follows the whole beach and continues through the Zavala tunnel to Bečići and Kamenovo. The beach is divided into many leased bathing areas with cafés and restaurants behind them, three areas have held the Blue Flag, and a pet-friendly bathing area lies in the central part. It is the beach you walk to from anywhere in Budva.

Getting there and parking

On foot from the old town, the harbour or any hotel in central Budva; the promenade runs the full length. The city bus lines to Sveti Stefan (every 10 minutes, 06:00-22:00), Petrovac (about hourly) and Jaz-Trsteno-Ploče (seasonal, 14 departures a day) all leave from Mediteranska street in the centre. A seasonal pier of 85 m stands at Slovenska plaža for boats.

Street parking in Budva municipality is zoned. In summer (1 May to 30 September) zone I costs €2 an hour for at most 1 hour, zone II €1.50 an hour for at most 3 hours and zone III €1 an hour, charged daily 07:00-24:00. An unpaid stay earns a €50 day ticket, reduced by a third if paid within 8 days.

The beach

1,600 m long with an area of 24,800 m². Pebble, with sandy stretches. Behind the beach are cafés and restaurants and courts for basketball, volleyball and boules. The beach was called Pod polje until early visitors from Czechoslovakia gave it the name it has now.

Loungers and the free half

The beach is leased in sections, each with its own loungers, and the rules answer the question of where you can lie for free. Every public bathing area must keep half of its length free of loungers and umbrellas and mark it, with a free strip at least 3 m wide along the water and a passage to the sea at least every 20 m; on the furnished half an umbrella with two loungers takes at least 8 m². Lifeguards are posted at least one per 50 m of shore in July and August and one per 100 m in the other months of the season, which runs from May to October, when the bathing water is also tested.

Blue Flag

Three bathing areas on Slovenska plaža have held the Blue Flag: Ocaso, San Trope and Time Out. The Tiberina area (10E) has been in the pilot phase, a preparatory step and not a flag. The flag belongs to each concession, not to the whole 1.6 km.

Dogs

A pet-friendly bathing area (8F) lies in the central part of the beach.
