History of the museum
The museum was founded in 1950 as the Zavičajni muzej Titograda, the regional museum of the city under its post-war name. In 1974 it merged with the Modern Gallery and the Gallery "Risto Stijović", and in 1991 the group was reorganised as JU Muzeji i galerije Podgorice, the Capital City's institution that today also runs the Marko Miljanov Museum in Medun, the Gallery "Art" and Kuslev's House. Since 2003 the city museum has been in the renovated former Grafički zavod printing works, a building put up after the Second World War.
