Kalardovo is a sand beach of about 200 m on the shore of Tivat bay next to Ostrvo cvijeća (the Island of Flowers) and close to Tivat Airport. The water is shallow with an easy entry, which makes it the beach in Tivat for families with small children. It has beach furniture, a beach bar and a restaurant, and healing mud on the shore, and it can be reached by car, on foot or by boat.

Naturist area

Tivat's official naturist area is not on Kalardovo itself but on Sveti Marko island, about 2.3 km across the water to the west-north-west. Bathing area 9C is 104 m of south-facing shore at Lipovica, on the western part of the island, some 260 m east of the island's western cape, Debela glava. There is no path and no pier: it can be reached only by boat. Nothing is built there, and entry is for naturists only.

Getting there

Kalardovo lies on the shore of Tivat bay, by the airport and the Island of Flowers. It can be reached by car, on foot and by boat. Tivat Airport is the nearest airport by a wide margin, and the town centre of Tivat, with Porto Montenegro, lies around the bay to the north.

The beach

Sand, about 200 m, with shallow water and an easy entry: you can walk a long way out before it gets deep, which is the point for toddlers and for anyone who wants a calm swim inside the bay rather than open sea. The beach is public with commercial areas, so there are stretches with furniture for hire and stretches without. Beside the beach bar and restaurant there is healing mud on the shore, which bathers use on their own.

Loungers and the free half

Every public bathing area must keep half of its length free of loungers and umbrellas and mark it, with a free strip along the water and a passage to the sea at least every 20 m. Lifeguards are posted at least one per 50 m of shore in July and August and one per 100 m in the other months of the season, which runs from May to October, when the bathing water is also tested.

Blue Flag

The Kalardovo bathing area (9A) held the Blue Flag from 2005 to 2023 and was then in the pilot phase, which is a preparatory step and not a flag.

Around the bay

Sveti Marko, the island across the water, is the largest in the Bay of Kotor at 34 ha, about 20 minutes by boat from the Pine jetty in Tivat, and was a Club Med holiday village from 1962 to 1991. Solila, about 150 ha of coastal wetland in Krtoli bay opposite central Tivat, has been a Ramsar site since 2013, with 178 bird species recorded, trails, two bird-watching towers and free entry. Both are described on the Tivat page.

Nearby

  • Plavi horizonti, the largest beach in the municipality, and Pecka on Luštica, 15 km by road (about 24 minutes).
  • Opatovo and Waikiki on the Tivat shore towards the Lepetane ferry.
