Njivice lies about 7 km by road from Herceg Novi and 3 km from Igalo at the entrance to the Bay of Kotor. It has several beaches rather than one: the "Queen's" beaches (Kraljičina plaža), and rocky beaches towards Igalo. The sea is shallow, which puts Njivice on the list of family beaches, and the Hotel Iberostar bathing area has held the Blue Flag. Steep rocks behind the shore give shade for part of the day.
Naturist area
Njivice is one of the oldest naturist beaches in Montenegro, with steep rocks behind the shore that give shade. Its naturist past is on record: in 2017 a nudist bathing area by the former Hotel Rivijera was offered for lease. The 2024-2028 programme for the coastal zone designates no naturist area at Njivice; its bathing areas are public family and hotel areas, so no part of the beach is reserved for naturists.
Getting there and parking
By road from Herceg Novi through Igalo, about 7 km (about 14 minutes); the Debeli Brijeg border crossing to Croatia is 6.5 km from Igalo on the same side of town. Herceg Novi's city and suburban buses are run by Blue Line, with an office in Igalo. Herceg Novi's paid street zones run from Igalo to Meljine.
The beaches
Several bathing areas along the shore: the Queen's beaches, the hotel beach, and rock towards Igalo. The water is shallow, which suits children. In the coastal-zone programme the Njivice bathing areas are 1A and 1A2 (hotel) and 1A3, 1B1 and 1B2 (public family).
Loungers and the free half
Every public bathing area must keep half of its length free of loungers and umbrellas and mark it, with a free strip along the water and a passage to the sea at least every 20 m. Hotel bathing areas may be furnished throughout. Lifeguards are posted at least one per 50 m of shore in July and August and one per 100 m in the other months of the season, which runs from May to October, when the bathing water is also tested.
Blue Flag
Two bathing areas at Njivice have held the Blue Flag: Club hotel Riviera (2006-2016) and Hotel Iberostar (1A). The flag belongs to each concession, not to the whole shore.
