Cycling in Lovćen National Park

Lovćen National Park has three marked mountain-bike loops; bikes are rented at Ivanova korita for €3 an hour or €8 a day, and park entrance is €3.

Lovćen National Park above Cetinje has three marked mountain-bike trails, all loops, and rents bikes at Ivanova korita for €3 an hour or €8 a day. Only one of the three, the "Velika kružna tura oko Lovćena" (big loop around Lovćen), is reserved for bikes; the other two are shared with walkers. Park entrance is €3 a day.

The park's trails

The park's activity page lists the three loops but publishes neither their lengths nor their grades. Mountain-bike trails in Montenegro's national network are registered, categorised and maintained by the Cycling Federation of Montenegro under the mountain trails law; the park's boards carry the category. Ivanova korita is about 10 km from Cetinje. The Njegoš mausoleum on Jezerski vrh (1,657 m) is covered on the Jezerski vrh viewpoint page.

Down to the Bay of Kotor

The old road from Krstac above Njeguši down to Kotor is the descent most riders have in mind. No official source gives its length, its hairpin count or any cycling guidance for it; see the Kotor serpentine page for what is documented. The national tourism organisation (NTO) names a Bay of Kotor loop that finishes at Njeguši among its recommended rides, and says riding is possible all year.

National routes

The NTO publishes five long-distance trails with brochures and GPX files: Beskrajni pejzaži (415 km), Slano i slatko (626 km), Otkrića na sjeveru (390 km), Čarobni istok (305 km) and Priče pokraj vode (236 km). Shorter named rides include the Podgorica-Virpazar-Rijeka Crnojevića loop, the Durmitor Ring and the Osmica loop from Plav via Gusinje. Other parks with marked rides: Durmitor (Žabljak-Javorje loop, 38 km, about 2 h, rental at the park visitor centre), Skadar Lake (five road and two MTB routes), Biogradska gora ("Dvije glave i pet jezera", 63 km, 8-9 h) and Prokletije (Ropojana valley, 23 km return, +290 m).
