June brings coastal highs of 25 to 26 °C and opens the high mountains for hiking. The summer-long festivals start in the second half of the month: in 2026 the European Film Festival opened on 19 June, the Tivat Music Festival on 25 June and Grad teatar in Budva on 30 June. The railway's summer timetable and the day train to Subotica began on 13 June 2026.

Weather in June

The table gives the June figures from the ZHMS normals 1961-1990. There is no ZHMS station in Kotor or Budva; Herceg Novi and Bar are the nearest coastal stations.

Podgorica averages 24 days at 25 °C or more, Herceg Novi 20 and Bar 16. The mountains stay much cooler and wetter: Kolašin and Žabljak get rain on 15 and 16 days, about twice as often as the coast. For the coming days, see the weather page or today's forecast for Podgorica, Bar, Herceg Novi, Kolašin and Žabljak.

The sea

There are no official monthly sea-temperature normals for Montenegro; the latest measured sea temperature is on its own page. June falls inside the bathing season that Morsko dobro monitors (May to October), with lifeguards at a lower level than in July and August.

  • Choose Vision: techno events at Forte Mare in Herceg Novi during June, according to the Herceg Novi tourist organisation.

The festival openings move by a few days each year. The organisers publish them in spring: Grad teatar, Tivat, Kotor, Ulcinj and Herceg Novi.

Seasons: what opens and closes

Kolašin 1600 summer season. The ski centre opened its summer season of hiking, biking and events on 1 June 2025 and on 7 June 2026. No closing date has been published. See Kolašin 1600.

High mountains open. The national tourist organisation's hiking season for Durmitor, Komovi, Prokletije, Maglić, Visitor and Hajla runs from June to the end of October. See Durmitor National Park.

Summer trains. The railway's summer timetable ran from 13 June to 30 September 2026, and the seasonal day train Bar-Subotica from 13 June to 14 September 2026. The night train Bar-Belgrade runs all year. See the Bar-Belgrade train.

Free entry to the national parks on the second Sunday of June, under the parks' fee decision.

Ferry. The Kamenari-Lepetane ferry keeps its summer timetable, every 15 to 20 minutes day and night (early May to mid-October).

How busy it is

In June 2025, hotels, campsites and other collective accommodation recorded 195,642 arrivals, against 169,353 in May and 244,904 in August (MONSTAT; private accommodation not included). These are national figures; there is no separate figure for Kotor.

Where to go

  • Budva from the last days of June, when Grad teatar opens its stages in the Old Town with programmes from 21:00; Bar has 16 days at 25 °C or more and only 7 wet days, the driest of the five stations.
  • Tivat for the Music Festival from 25 June and the Žućenica fest on the Pine waterfront on 20 June (2026), and Kotor for the June food festivals and the Oj talasi folklore festival.
  • Ulcinj for Monte Latino on Velika plaža in mid-June and the oldtimer meeting at Mala plaža.
  • Durmitor, Komovi and Prokletije for the first hikes of the high-mountain season, which opens in June; Žabljak still averages only 16.8 °C by day and rain on 16 days, so expect wet trails and cool evenings.
  • Kolašin 1600 for its summer season of hiking and biking, open from the first week of June.
  • The train: the summer timetable and the day train from Bar to Subotica run from mid-June, so June is the first month for a daylight ride through the Morača canyon.

What to pack

Full summer kit for the coast and Podgorica: highs of 25 to 28 °C, lows of 16 to 17 °C, 7 to 9 wet days, and more than 275 hours of sunshine. Swimwear for beaches that are inside the monitored bathing season, with lifeguards at the lower off-season level. For the mountains pack a different season: Kolašin and Žabljak have lows of 7 to 8 °C and rain on 15 to 16 days, so a warm layer, a waterproof and boots. Evening theatre and concerts start at 21:00 or later and are outdoors; a light jacket is enough on the coast.

A sample week in the second half of June

  1. Days 1-2, Tivat and Kotor: the opening of the Tivat Music Festival (25 June in 2026) and Kotor's Old Town; cross the bay on the summer-timetable ferry.
  2. Day 3, Budva: the beach by day and, if the dates coincide, the opening of Grad teatar (30 June in 2026).
  3. Day 4, Ulcinj: Velika plaža and the oldtimer meeting at Mala plaža (26 June in 2026).
  4. Days 5-6, Žabljak and Durmitor: the first high-mountain hikes of the season, with a free national park entry if the second Sunday of June falls in the week.
  5. Day 7, Kolašin: the summer season at Kolašin 1600, then the day train or the drive back to the coast.

Dates shift every year; the organisers' sites above carry the current ones.
